The Amazing Race 8--"Go Mommy, Go! We Can Beat Them"

Aiyee...that title fits with all the fears we have for this season.

Anyway, here's the Spoilerific Discussion Thread to bitch...or be pleasantly surprised.

Nah, to bitch.

I'd wanted to use the fan votes to calculate betting odds of elimination and of winning, but the CBS site isn't doing polls right now.

Hatblog's slight rooting interests lie with the Bransen family, as they have Hope connections. Go Dutch!

I have no idea what to expect from this season (apart from the general family theme, that is). I was surprised to hear that some teams would include small kids and others wouldn't; those seem like completely different races to me.

I have a bit of a problem, though: Kim has had a longstanding dislike for TAR (the stress is just too constant, I guess; even the music is always tense). For the last couple of seasons, she's happened to have a night class on TAR night so we were okay, but this quarter she doesn't. And she's apparently interested in watching "My Name is Earl", too. (I guess that means I get a silver lining if this season really does turn out to be lame.) :)

Man, that's awful that they just label the African-Americans 'The Black Family.'

Oh. Wait. :)

I can tell you this much--there will be way too much invoking of God in this race.

I did like the Delaware crossing task. That was pretty cool. And I have thought the buggy task would have been faster, but I guess it helps to have 75 lb people riding along.

I want to know why the Gaghans think that the girl being able to run a 7 min. mile will help. Most of the athletics in the race is of the sprint variety. I'd be more impressed if she could run a 5'5 forty. They look like the best bet to give us a Colin moment--they seem pretty intense.

The Paolo's are really, really annoying. They need to go soon. So they probably won't.

And a big raspberry to the producers for giving them unlimited gas as the ride around the country in SUV land destroyers.

Yeah, pretty heavy with the God talk already. I was also a little annoyed by the helping out on the tent building. I understand that it didn't really affect the standings and you gotta set a good example for your kids blah blah blah, but part of the reason I watch this show is for the inter-team pettiness.

The Paolo family probably needs to be eliminated relatively soon, but I did really, really enjoy the look on the youngest son's face during the entire show. Just the right combination of "I can't believe how dimwitted and inept everyone else in this car is" and "There is no escape for me from this."

I didn't think I'd enjoy the family format, but I actually really liked the first show. The look on the faces of the Aiello sons-in-law when the Gaghan kids passed them singing was priceless.

"Find the right exit, in Jesus' name!"

I was glad to see that they're trying to come up with tasks that could favor teams with small kids (like the buggy option, although it looked like that ended up being very unbalanced in favor of the building in the end).

And I, too, enjoyed the "passed while singing" moment.

It's still yet to be seen whether I get to watch this thing regularly, though. :)
