The Amazing Race 7--"5 Continents, 25 Cities, and more than 40,000 Miles"

...but no International Date Line.

I'm sure I'll enjoy this, but I'm about TARred out. I think perhaps one per year is best for both the viewers and the production staff.

A satisfactory end to a pretty decent season. I thought that Rob & Amber were better racers than Uchenna & Joyce overall, so that was a little disappointing from a technical standpoint. They seem to be genuinely nice folks, though, so I'm happy to see them get the money. Come to think of it, I don't really remember the last time that the most consistently successful team ended up winning the whole thing, so I suppose that I shouldn't be too surprised by this outcome. At very least, Ron & Kelly didn't end up with another excuse not to get the hell away from each other, so that was good.

As for the finale itself, I was put off by all of the begging footage. I understand that it was integral to the storyline so I don't blame the editors, but they've really gotta do away with the NEL money confiscation rule. Give them a time penalty or something, but the begging has got to go. Even normalizing for the fact that these are people who put themselves on a reality TV show, it's an unnecesary bit of humiliation, both for the racers and the people they beg. If I wanted to see that level of humiliation, I'd watch Fear Factor or Elimidate.

Ah, that last comment was from me.

I meant to post this days ago, but better late than never. I was very happy with the way this turned out (even though it wasn't even a "race to the line and back"), which presumably colored my impressions quite a bit. Given those final three teams, this is pretty much exactly the order that I would have hoped for.

I guess my only real comment on the final legs of the race was that this was the first time I've seen the non-elimination mugging have a real, substantial effect on a team. Begging for money at 3:00am in an isolated location is hard!

I think I agree with Ryan that the begging got pretty painful after a while, and the team was especially desperate in this case. My point is just that it actually had an effect, and that Uchenna and Joyce were only saved by yet another Amazing Clump. But given that they were only ten minutes behind after that flat tire, which was just bad luck, I'm not at all annoyed that they got a second chance.

They thought to check the earlier flight just in time, too. Rob and Amber were better racers, but not enough better to guarantee the win. (Uchenna and Joyce really lucked out with their Spanish-speaking cabbie, though!)
