The Amazing Race 7--"Houston, We Have an Elephant"

Really? We can't do better than THAT for a title? Puh-leeze. Did they film this leg in 1995?

I am SO mad this was elimination.

Not because I was rooting for the brothers, although I was, because thems the breaks.

But I wanted to see them going everywhere in their swimsuits. Er, for the comic value, of course.

It's hard to imagine two more opposite reactions to the "last place teams lose their stuff" rule. :) I absolutely agree that watching the brothers go through the rest of the race dressed like that would have been hilarious.

I'm sad to see them go. Couldn't they have added a twist and had one of the two first place teams be eliminated instead? (No, of course I'm not serious, but those are the teams that I feel the least empathy with, and whom I'm least interested in watching.)

I continue to feel the greatest kinship with Lynn and Alex (no, I don't think that's a sign of anything, thank you very much :) ). I feel like they're the team with the most consistently positive attitude (despite their Rob and Amber bashing, which could have been amplified or made to seem more serious in editing), and they probably have the most positive relationship in general. Plus, they wore layers and even (I think) had the same idea I had of wearing spare underwear as a bandana.

All in all, this wasn't a terribly exciting leg. It seemed to be more noteworthy for various blunders and bad luck than it was for any fantastic racing or high tension (although I was impressed with Uchenna and Joyce's balancing ability). I don't know how Meredith and Gretchen keep holding on, either, but they're still more interesting to watch than Ron and Kelly. (Rob and Amber do generally race well, but whether it's editing or pure personality they just don't sit well with me.)

Did I mention that CBS gave them a little more than half the time they normally get to plan this Race. This is the third single-day leg (after the two in Argentina). There wasn't much too it at all--drive about 200 miles, milk a goat and move a few logs. It's been a good Race, and seeing all manner of african animals in the wild is really cool, but this leg was really blah. AND my favorite team was eliminated. I think they got lost a lot worse than we were led to believe. When you take into account that two teams drove from the roadblock to the pitstop and then had to go all the way back AND the brothers never saw them, they must have been at least ~45 minute behind. The CBS video shows them lost on two separate occasions, and Brian admits he was driving considerably slower, after their accident from the day before. It was a crappy leg for an elimination, but you can't exactly have teams begging in the bush. On the other hand, I'd love to have seen the brothers start the next leg in bathing suits and winter hats.

Yeah, blah kinda episode. Nothing really boring, but nothing terribly exciting either. The only moment I remember being impressed at was when Uchenna and Joyce rocked the house at carrying stuff on their heads. I still don't quite get what the other teams were doing wrong there (walking stiffly instead of using a smooth gait, perhaps?), but it really didn't seem like it'd be that tough.

Lynn & Alex have a weird sorta dynamic, although I have to admit that they seem to work together more consistantly than any of the other teams. I do know that, were I subjected to Lynn's micro-managing during the driving roadblock, I would have been forced to throw him out of the jeep. Even if it's a task that where I don't have much experience, that would have driven me insane.

It is a shame to see the brothers go; I'd just gotten to the point where I could distinguish them, although I hadn't yet sorted out the names.
